Livestock Hauler Depends Upon Kenworth T660 with PACCAR MX Engine

Offers Reliability, Fuel Efficiency and Driver Comfort

AURORA, Utah, September 12, 2012 - The premier hog hauler in the western United States, Gurney Trucking specializes in transporting livestock, as well as various dry commodities. With a fleet of 55 trucks, mostly Kenworths, the Aurora, Utah, company was an early adopter of the PACCAR MX engine. Some of those trucks now have more than 300,000 miles with favorable in-fleet comparisons against other engines in fuel economy and uptime.

"In 2010, with all the emissions issues our industry was dealing with, we purchased some new Kenworths, as well as some other trucks," said President Scott Gurney, who has since been running the trucks side-by-side in his fleet. "All in all, Kenworths are the best. The Kenworth T660 with PACCAR MX engine appears to be our most reliable truck."

While hauling livestock, fear of breakdown is Gurney's biggest concern, especially along the hot desert highways between Utah and Los Angeles. "A load of hogs won't live very long without constant air movement," Gurney said. "Our Kenworth T660s pretty much run strong every day, no problems."

With a mixture of 62-inch and 38-inch AeroCab® sleepers, along with a few day cabs, Gurney prefers Kenworth T660s with PACCAR MX engines for reliability, long-term durability and driver satisfaction. "We have a lot of drivers who've been with us a long time," said Gurney. "The Kenworth T660 is our best driver-retention tool. It's more comfortable and driver friendly. The cabs ride much quieter. It's just a good, sturdy-built truck. Of all the trucks we've run, our drivers prefer Kenworth."

The company currently has 19 Kenworth T660s with PACCAR MX engines, with four more on order. Gurney purchases his trucks from Kenworth Sales Company - Salt Lake City, the same dealer he's been working with since 1995. "They really stepped up and helped us expand by finding us the right trucks and then helping us finance them," Gurney said. "They're really easy to work with, unbelievable actually. They have a very good product and they stand behind it. Kenworth has the best dealer network in our lanes, too, so if we do have a problem, they're there for us. They're more than willing to go above and beyond anytime we get in a jam. That means a lot to us."

This constant commitment to superior satisfaction is demonstrated by Kenworth receiving the "Highest in Customer Satisfaction with Heavy Duty Truck Dealer Service, Two Years in a Row", according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2011-2012 Heavy Duty Truck Customer Satisfaction StudiesSM.*

As Gurney Trucking transitions from larger trucks to a more fuel-efficient fleet, the T660 with PACCAR MX engine promises to play a significant role. "The T660s are more aerodynamic and give us better fuel economy. They have good visibility and the turning radius is excellent. With the highest resale value and the best dealer network, Kenworth fits what we're doing."
