Kenworth T440 CNG Truck To Participate in Ride and Drive at Annual High-Efficiency Truck Users Forum
Kenworth Truck Company will showcase a Kenworth T440 compressed natural gas (CNG) tractor in the Kenworth booth (No. 119) during the 12th annual High-Efficiency Truck Users Forum (HTUF™) Sept. 18-20 at the Charlotte Convention Center in Charlotte, N.C. The national forum brings together fleets, suppliers and manufacturers to examine the latest in hybrid technology for the trucking industry.
The Kenworth T440 CNG vehicle will participate in the HTUF Ride and Drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at the zMax Dragway at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
The T440 CNG is equipped with an 8.9-liter Cummins Westport ISL G engine, 6-speed Allison 3000HS transmission and Kenworth Extended Day Cab. The T440 features excellent maneuverability, modern aerodynamic styling, and superior ergonomics. It is available as a straight truck or tractor in a gross vehicle weight (GVW) ranging from a heavy Class 7 vehicle at 33,000 lbs. up to a light Class 8 truck at 68,000 lbs. The ISL G engine uses a maintenance-free, three-way catalyst and is 2010 EPA- and CARB-compliant without the use of selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology or a diesel particulate filter (DPF). Rated at 320 hp and 1,000 lb-ft of torque, the engine's torque curve closely matches that of its diesel counterparts.
"HTUF offers an excellent opportunity for fleet and truck operators to test out the T440 CNG truck by taking a drive or ride on the track," said Doug Powell, Kenworth medium duty marketing manager. "Kenworth continues to expand its line of compressed and liquefied natural gas trucks, which serve a growing number of applications and provides excellent, low-emission solutions combined with outstanding efficiency, horsepower and torque."
Other Kenworth natural gas trucks include the Kenworth T660 (CNG or LNG), Kenworth T800 (LNG) and Kenworth W900S (CNG or LNG).
As part of its alternative fuel lineup, Kenworth also offers the Kenworth T270 Class 6 and T370 Class 7 diesel-electric hybrid trucks for utility, pickup and delivery, and service applications. Kenworth hybrid tractors, available up to 55,000-lb GCW, are for local haul applications, including beverage, general freight, and grocery distribution. Kenworth's goal is to enhance fuel economy by up to 30 percent in both pickup and delivery and hybrid tractor applications and up to 50 percent in utility operations.
