The U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony took place on December 3, 2024.

Lynden drivers, John Schank and Fred Austin, transported the 2024 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree in a Kenworth T680 from its harvest site in Alaska to the U.S. Capitol during a 4,000-mile cross-country trip that included 13 tour stops in communities along the way.

Kenworth provided the T680, adorned with a special graphic design featuring Alaska’s Tongass and Chugach National Forests in honor of this year’s tour theme, “Where Nature, People, and Tradition Come Together”

The Kenworth T680 is equipped with a 76-inch sleeper and the PACCAR Powertrain featuring the PACCAR MX-13 engine rated at 455 horsepower, PACCAR TX-12 automated transmission and PACCAR DX-40 tandem rear axles. The truck is equipped with Kenworth’s TruckTech+ connected truck technology that allowed real-time GPS location tracking of the U.S. Capitol Christmas tree. The tree’s journey can be viewed on the official U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree interactive map (Kenworth Tree Tracker 2024 | Kenworth).

For the past 11 years, Kenworth has been a major sponsor of the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree program, supplying trucks to haul the special tree each holiday season. This year’s tree was an 80-foot Sitka spruce from the Tongass National Forest in Alaska.
